Durability is a huge factor when choosing a new carpet. Consider its density along with the type of fiber the carpet consists of. Be sure to explore our vast array of materials before making a decision. Wool tops the list, but it’s typically the most expensive. Nylon and other synthetic materials like polyester and polypropylene have a similar feel to wool but are more budget-friendly.

Types of Carpets

Carpet can be made from several different fibers in various ways. Learn their distinctions before you purchase.

Cut pile – Popular for its durability, cut pile consists of highly-twisted yarn that holds its shape, and is ideal for rooms that get heavy foot traffic.

Loop pile – Also durable for heavy-trafficked areas, it’s made with looped fibers at a uniform height.

Multi-level loop pile – Like loop pile, but with two or three different heights that manifests a pattern effect.

Cut-loop pile – A combination of cut pile and loop pile, this type of carpet offers a variety in its surface texture as well as a multicolor look that can camouflage stains.

While carpets are already soft, they require extra support and cushioning that is provided by a layer of padding. We recommend denser padding for higher traffic areas while guest rooms or other spots that aren’t used a much can get away with less padding. We are more than happy to help you decide which level of padding you should get for each area.
